Update March 2008!
March 6th 2008

Well, it's been a year since I last posted a little note here and I just wanted to re-iterate my thanks to all those who've been helping to build what I hope is a useful little resource of Lovecraftian names. So, a big "Thanks!" to everyone who has contributed (and a special "Wow!" to whoever the incredibly productive persons have been who've added a huge list of new entries in the last few days. Great names, much appreciated!)

I do have a few plans to extend and improve the Book of Alt Names in the coming months, and - yes - there will be corrections where kind folks have pointed them out (thanks for that too, much appreciated).

On the subject of corrections - if you enter something then notice you've made a little typo or such - no, there's no way for you to correct it yourself but I do visit regularly, read all the new submissions and make little corrections whenever I spot something that's obviously a mistake, so no worries.

One little undocumented aspect of the interface - you might notice that some entries for non-English language alt names have a little caption stating what language or mythological tradition the name as been drawn from. If you want to do this just put " - something" (space, dash, space, some text) at the end of the name when you enter it. You'll have to leave the field that asks for your name blank though, or that'll be shown instead. So, for instance, Cthulhu has an alt-name "Kui tai lao hai", if you were entering this and wanted to indicate that this is a Chinese name, you'd enter "Kui tai lao hai - Chinese" in the Alternative Name and leave the Your own name field blank. The little caption saying Chinese would then be shown alongside the name you suggested and in a different font.

Lastly, if you have a Lovecraft-, Mythos-, or Call-of-Cthulhu-related website and you'd like a link, feel free to drop me a line with the contact form on the sidebar there.
